Aircraft Componants, Systems, And Control Surfaces Flashcards
Function of trim tabs
Tap can be used to trim out the holding force and ease the task of the pilot
Describe empennage
The tail assembly usually includes
- the fixed horizontal stabiliser
- the fixed vertical stabiliser
- and movable control surfaces
Explain the centre of gravity
The point of balance of the aircraft, the point through which weight is said to act.
The position of the centre of gravity depends on the weight and position of all individual aircraft parts and the load that it carried.
All aircraft controls act around the centre of gravity
Function of elevator
The elevator is a control surface located on the horizontal stabiliser that is Utilised to control the aircraft pitch
Function of flaps
Generally used for takeoff and landing. providing greater lift, better aicraft control at slow speed
Describe fuselage
Fuselage forms the body of the aircraft to which the wings tail engine and undercarriage are attached
Speed brakes
Control services that are primarily to reduce speed rapidly during Landing or manoeuvering
Describe the construction of aircraft windows
Constructed by laminating several thin clear polyvinyl butyl plastic sheets between piles of preformed and pre tempered glass layers
Lamination is used for redundancy
Slats
Small auxiliary control surface at directs relatively high velocity air into the Boundry layer to re-energise it
Describe the function of aileron
Ailerons are used to roll the aircraft around the longitudinal axis
Function of the control yoke
Allows the pilot to change The aircraft movement on the lateral and longitudinal axis
Describe wings
The wings are designed to generate lift and are exposed to heavy loads in manoeuvres and turbulence well in excess of the total weight of the aircraft
Describe the three planes of aircraft movement
Pitch: the nose needs to be raised or lowered on the lateral axis
Roll: the aircraft wings move on the longitudinal axis. Therefore rotating the aircraft on the longitudinal axis
Yaw: The aircraft knows needs to be swung left or right this movement is conducted on the vertical or normal axis
Describe the functions of the undercarriage
The undercarriage houses the landing gear which is used to manoeuvre the aircraft and support the aircraft at a convenient height,
the undercarriage also houses weapons bays and absorbs the kinetic energy of landing
The function of a Rudder
The rudder is used to control the aircraft in yaw
