Airbus Strategy Flashcards
What is JUICE?
Juice is the spacecraft that will reach Jupiter in 2031
JUICE stands for “JUpiter ICy moons Explorer” and it is a space mission led by the European Space Agency (ESA) that aims to study the Jupiter system and its icy moons, with a particular focus on Ganymede, Europa, and Callisto.
It was launched on 14 APR 2023 from Ariane 5.
The mission’s main scientific objectives are to explore the potential habitability of these moons, their geology, and their evolution.
Interplanetary mission with ESA (European Space Agency) reuniting 80 companies, 23 countries
Blue Condor Demonstrator
“Measurement of non CO2 emissions:
- Glider at 33,000 ft (usually glider only go up to 10,000ft)
- Chaser equipped with sensors to measure contrails and NOx emissions”
Dragonfly Demonstrator
Safe fligth and landing with incapacitated pilots through ‘Automated Emergency Ops’ application.
ZeroE
“Concept planes under elaboration to reach EIS in 2035:
Turpofan: 2,000+nm, <200 pax with two hydrogen hybrid turbofans
Turboprop: 1,000+nm, <100 pax with two hydrogen hybrid turboprops
Blended Wing Body: 2,000+nm, <200 pax with two hybrid hydrogen turbofans (MAVERIC - Model Aircraft for Validation and Experimentation for Robust Innovative Controls, test flight June 2019)”
Fello’Fly
“Inspired by nature, by the migration flight of birds, a follower aircraft will surf on the wake vortex of the lead aircraft to benefit from reduced drag, fuel consumption and emissions.
Engine thrust of one engine (the aisle surfing on the wake vortex) can be reduced by 5-10%.
It is estimated that fuel savings of 5-10% of the follower aircraft can be achieved.
Meeting point at 1000ft altituded difference and 3km/1.5nm distance, then Fello Fly procedure to be launched.”
