Airbrakes Pressure Gauges Flashcards
(1) (say) Applied leakage test no more than 4 psi lost in 1 minute with truck off, Hold breaks down
(say) Applied leakage test no more than 4 psi air loss in one minute with breaks off
Safe start, Air tanks are full, truck in 2nd gear, engine off, release brakes, tanks settle,
Push and hold break her door all the way down wait for tanks to settle, read pressure gauges to inspector, primary air is ____, secondary air is ____, start timer on dashboard, if air loss after one minute less than 4 psi, test good and complete
(2) (say) Low pressure warning device test between
55 and 75 psi
Say low air pressure warning device test, between (55 and 75 PSI) ignition on, pump the brake pedal until low air warning audio and visual display takes place, stop pumping tell examiner what psi number is When low air warning device stays on both primary and secondary air gauges, say test good and complete
(3) (say) Spring break test between (20 and 45 psi no lower)
Say spring break test, (spring should pop out between 20 and 45 psi)
Continuing from test to low air pressure warning, continue pumping brake pedal until the yellow and red knobs pop out read gauge for pressure tell examiner which knob and at what pressure continue till second knob pops out read pressure gauge, tell inspector test good and complete
(4) safe start
5) governor cut out test (no higher than 130 psi
(4) safe start Every time say (A) I am now going to do a safe start
(B) pull parking brake yellow and red knob (confirm it is on or pulled out)
(C) push clutch in, move gear stick to neutral, confirm in neutral
(D) say and point to each light say each name ABS, check engine, oil, water and parking brake
(E) start truck, push and release pedal, tell the instructor you are feeling and looking for looseness, sticky and or pedal, no unusual Engine sounds
(5) air compressor governor cut out pressure test (no higher than 130 psi) (say I will conduct a Safe start) start motor rev motor to a maximum of 1300 RPM, needle stops rising till examiner the number on the gauge (say test is good and complete)
(6) say governor cut in test, (no lower than 100 psi)
Say air compressor governor cut in pressure test (no lower than 100 psi) pump brake pedal all the way to the floor one time, if needle does not rise within 15 seconds, said repeat one more time, You will know the governor has cut-in, when needle starts to rise till the examiner what number is say test good and complete
(7) say truck parking brake test truck should not move,
Truck parking brake test (truck should not move), make sure yellow knob is pulled out, push in red knob, put truck in to second gear release clutch until parking brake is preventing the truck from moving, push in clutch, put truck in neutral, tell examiner the parking brake test is good and in working order
(8) (say)trailer parking brake test (truck should not move)
Push in yellow knob, pull out red knob, put truck in second gear, release clutch until parking brake prevent truck from movie, put truck in neutral till examiner trailer brake is good and in working order
(9) (say) Service brake test
Say service brake test, release both yellow and red knobs put truck into second gear let clutch out slowly, at a roll of 5 mph, hands off the steering wheel, apply foot/service brakes, Truck should not pull either direction and stop (say test good and complete)
The safety valve is set to automatically reduce pressure at 150 psi.
Answer 150 psi
The safety valve is set to automatically reduce pressure at 150 psi
A air brake system is fully charged at 125 psi.
Answer 125 psi
A air brake system is fully charged 125 psi
Low air pressure warning according to the handbook will come on between 55 and 75 psi
Handbook says pressure warning systems will activate 55 and 75 PSI
Handbook says tractors and straight truck spring breaks will come fully on when air pressure drops in the range of 20 to 45 psi (typically 20 to 30 PSI)
Handbook tractor and straight trucks says spring breaks come on 20 to 45 psi typically 20 to 30 PSI
According to the handbook low air pressure warning light and buzzer should shut off. Pressure in both systems rises greater than 55 psi
Warning light and buzzer will shut off at 55 PSI should not drive till 100 psi
Check pressure hoses etc. in step two engine compartment during the seven step check
Step two of the seven step engine compartment checks is when you look at the compressor belt hoses etc.
Step five of the seven step inspection while on the walk around inspection check slack adjusters
On step five of the seven step pre-trip inspection check the slack adjusters
