AIS
Aeronautical Information Service
Commonly called the briefing office. Provides pilots with PRE-FLIGHT planning support.
SAR

ATM
Air Traffic Management
The aggregation of the airborne functions and ground based functions (ATS, ASM and ATFCM) required to ensure the safe and efficient movement of aircraft during all phases of operation.
ATFCM
Air Traffic Flow and Capacity Management.
This service works with the organisation and handling of the flow of traffic in such a way that, while ensuring the safe, orderly and expeditious flight of individual aircraft, the totality of the traffic handled at any given point or in any given area is compatible with the capacity of the air traffic control system.
ASM
AirSpace Management.
This service works to optimize the use of the airspace. Using time sharing and coordination between airspace users, the ASM aims to maximize the utilization of the available airspace.
ATS
Air Traffic Services
The overall objective of the air traffic services is to promote a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic. This is done by providing the three services: FIS, ATC and ALRS.
ATC
Air Traffic Control
- Prevent Collisions between aircraft
- Prevent collisions between aircraft on the manoeuvring area and obstructions on that area
- Expedite and maintain an orderly flow of air traffic
ACC
Area Control Centre
The unit providing approach control service in a control zone or control area
APP
APProach control service An area control unit - an approach control unit; or - an aerodrome control tower. (A centre where mainly approach control service is provided is often called TMC = Terminal Control Centre)
TWR
aerodrome control ToWeR
Aerodrome control service shall be provided by:
- an aerodrome control tower (TWR)
