Air Masses Flashcards
20- 30mph.
COLD FRONTS
“cirriform” or towering cumulus clouds are
visible.
COLD FRONT
has dense air and stays very close to the ground.c
COLD FRONT
Violent
weather activity is associated with cold front
COLD FRONT
10- 25mph.
WARM FRONT
brings low
cloud ceiling, poor visibility and rain.
WARM FRONT
“stratiform” along with clouds can be expected.
WARM FRONT
cloud visibility is generally Poor.
WARM FRONT
*Normally, air cools as it rises. However, there are certain
scenarios where as air rises, it gets warmer.
TEMPERATURE INVERSION
may act like a lid or cap, keeping normal convective currents from
rising or falling.
TEMPERATURE INVERSION
–Movement of a Warm, less-dense Air Mass over a Cold, denser Air
Mass, normally associated with Warm Fronts.
FRONTAL INVERSION
–An air layer with its base at the ground surface and in which
temperature increases with height.
These often form at night over land under clear skies and are statically
stable.
GROUND INVERSION
