Air Management System Flashcards
Air Management System uses bleed air for?
ECS (heating and cooling )
Engine start
Pressurization
Eng and wing anti-ice
Water pressure
Hot air leak detection
How many AMS controllers?
1 controller with 2 channels which control respective onside system
If one channel of AMS controller fail, then?
Remaining channel can control entire AMS
What provides air for AMS?
Engine bleeds
APU bleed
External pneumatic source
Bleed air used for?
ECS - heating n cooling
Engine start
Eng n wing anti-icing
Water pressurization
External pneumatic air used for?
ECS on ground
Engine start on ground
External ground source panel located?
Lower fairing between wings
Primary use for APU bleed air?
ECS on ground
Engine start on ground
Assist w engine start in air FL210 or below
Bleed source for pressurization, heating n cooling 15,000 or below
Bleed air tapped from engines, where?
6th and 10th stage compressors (EBV , HSV respectively)
System alternates between valves to regulate an adequate and safe pressure
Normal pressure for any engine operation?
45 psi
Purpose of pre-cooler?
Cools the hot bleed air coming from engine to the AMS
What cools the pre-cooler?
Ground N1 fan
Flight N1 fan or ram air
Overheat Detection System - ODS monitors what?
Engine bleeds n packs
APU bleed
Plumbing for wing n engine anti-icing system
Both loops have to function to detect overheat condition?
Yes, but if one fails, the other will work alone to detect overheat
How many ECS packs?
2 independent Packs
Each engine provides air to respective pack
Ratio of fresh air to recirculated air?
52% fresh to 48% recirculated air
When are recirculation fans commanded off?
Cockpit switch
Smoke detected in recir bay
DUMP button pressed
Respective Pack is commanded Off
Avionics E bay cooling?
Fwd and mid E-bay —- 3 fans pull air from cabin to bay
Aft E-bay —— natural airflow from cabin to bay
When is emergency Ram Air ventilation activated?
Both Packs commanded OFF or failed below 25,000 msl (via L side Ram intake and electronically controlled)
Ram air pressure greater than cabin pressure (via R side Ram intake) at any altitude
How many channels on Cabin Pressure Control CPC?
2 channels, one active n one standby mode
What happens when DUMP button pressed?
Commands both packs Off
Opens OFV and raises cabin to 12,400 at rate 2,000 fpm
Shuts off both Recir. fans
Bleed air priority in flight?
Onside engine
Opposite engine
APU if available
What will close ECS packs?
Any engine start if APU is bleed source
Engine start on ground
Respective bleed system duct leak
Bleed air source not available for the pack
TL set to MAX on 🛫
REF A/I set to ALL on 🛫
REF ECS set to Off on MCDU (APU off)
When r ECS packs recovered?
TL not at MAX and
- airplane is 500 AFE w both engines operating
- airplane is > 9,700 MSL w 1 engine operating
