The Ethics Committee has sole discretion over whether to grant a hearing and whether to reinstate the planner. The planner must wait five years from the time of revocation before making such a request. The Committee may attach conditions to the reinstatement. The Ethics Officer will relay the determination to the planner. If denied the planner may reapply 12 months after the denial.

Describe the duty to notify the Ethics Officer.
The duty to notify the ethics officer refers to the requirement that AICP members notify the Ethics Officer if they have been convicted of a serious crime, or had another government-issued or professional license revoked, suspended, or restricted for any reason related to improper conduct.
Failure to notify the Officer may result in discipline.
What are the rights of an AICP member who has had discipline imposed by the Ethics Committee or Officer?
Before the discipline is imposed, the member has the right to set forth their position in writing to the Ethics Officer, who then decides whether to give the member a hearing.
A member who has had discipline imposed by the Ethics Officer has 30 days from the date of notification to file an appeal to the Committee. The member can pursue this by filing a timely appeal with the Ethics Officer. The appeal should include a statement listing the basis of the appeal.
The Committee has sole discretion to determine whether to grant the appeal.

Any person, AICP member or not, can seek informal advice from the Ethics Officer.
Which entity issues formal opinions on matters related to the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct?
AICP Ethics Committee - the Committee may also choose to issue opinions on their own, applying the Code to ethical matters related to planning.
True or false, the Ethics Committee is requried to provide a reason for failing to issue a Formal Advisory Opinion?
False. The Ethics Committee may decline to issue an opinion if they find the matter concerns past conduct that may be subject to discipline or for any other reason. The Ethics Committee may provide a reason for declining to issue and Advisory Opinion but are not requried to.
What is the process for amending or challenging a Formal Advisory Opinion issued by the AICP Ethics Committee?
Any AICP member who believes that a formal Advisory Opinion is incorrect or incomplete may write the the Ethics Officer explaining the member’s thinking and request for reconsideration. The Ethics Officer will then transmit that information to the Committee, which then has the sole discretion to consider that information and amend the Formal Advisory Opinion if deemed appropriate.
How many days does the Ethics Committee have to issue a Formal Advisory Opinion
If the Committee determines to issue a Formal Advisory Opinion, it will endeavor to do so within 90 days of receiving all information necessary to the provision of an opinion.
