AIC: essay prep Flashcards

Q

Recite the first part of the AIC thesis.

A

In J.B Priestley’s didactic morality play ‘An Inspector Calls’, a wide range of societal issues in the early 1900s are discussed, such as the class system, the way in which capitalism destroys community and morality, and the rampant oppression of women and the working class. Priestley’s proxy, Goole, is often used to voice his own socialist ideologies and hope that his Edwardian audience would recognise and act on the need for social change after two world wars. In the play, the character of [insert character] is used as a device to discuss the ramifications of [insert things that have ramifications] and attitudes towards [insert object of attitudes] in a capitalist, classist and sexist society. [Insert last sentence if it is needed.]
