people are resistant to new ideas so some people were resistant to the new science. some people that weren’t resistant pulled away from the open field system and planted the new crops.

A

prior to the 1700’s the population stayed stagnant. There was a boom in the 1700’s because the plague went down, new science brought in more food. food had higher calorie content (potatoes) there was an understanding of a need for quarantine. fewer wars, better roads, draining of swamps, and small pock inoculation.

number of people looking for non agriculture work grew. because they couldn’t compete with other farmer so bigger cities were more famished.

A

making products in their cottages. a putting out system. manufacturer buys product and puts it in peoples home so they make the product. sheep from farm 1 spin into thread- farm 2 into cloth - farm 3 into clothes- clothes sold in town.

good and bad of cottage industry

A

good- manufacture was getting good product to sell and farmers were getting work. bad- wages drop because of competition. prices go down, profits go down, manufacturer pays farmer less. product quality goes down. There is a desire to regulate workers and a need for new markets. American colonies in the 1700’s become more important to European countries.

british won complete control. taking slaves to the new world. triangular- goods go to africa to purchase slaves to be taken to the new world. britian became a dominating superpower.

European wars in the colonies. France encouraged the native americans to attack british colonies- giving them weapons. british defend colonies this takes fighters away from europe. war of spanish succession- british expanded territories they got newfoundland, gibraltar, and Nova Scotia- expanding their colonial empire.

1st 3 yrs france was winning. william pitt became prime minister. he piled all resources into this war. they defeated the french. france had to give england all of canada and spain all of louisianna.

intense nationalism, more willing to make sacrifices because of the constitutional monarchy. larger colonial population, immigrants went to british colonies because of religious freedom. enclosure acts, producing more raw material and buying more goods gives english more wealth. they have the best navy

A

in the 1700s agriculture revolution and cottage industries created problems. they made the american colonies all the more important. no one took better advantage of their colonies than the british so by 1775 the british had a thriving economy and was becoming europes superpower
