what are the links between testosterone (male sex hormone) and aggression?

A
  • has an influence on amygdala / hypothalamus/ pre-frontal cortex which are all associated with aggression
  • antenatal testosterone exposure in womb is responsible for cell growth in the amygdala and hypothalamus
  • lowers activation threshold of amygdala so can be more active
  • shortens refractory period of action potential so can fire more signals
