what are hormones?
A
- chemical messengers that transmit info around the body via the blood
- produced by glands in the endocrine system
- make longer term changes to the body

what are the links between testosterone (male sex hormone) and aggression?
A
- has an influence on amygdala / hypothalamus/ pre-frontal cortex which are all associated with aggression
- antenatal testosterone exposure in womb is responsible for cell growth in the amygdala and hypothalamus
- lowers activation threshold of amygdala so can be more active
- shortens refractory period of action potential so can fire more signals

- inhibits aggression
- mediates effects of testosterone
