Q

Describe the psychodynamic explanation of aggression

A

Psychodynamic explanation of aggression is a theory that states that within the unconscious there is a desire for violence. It was named after Thanatos; the Greek god of death.

Freud suggests that aggression would randomly occur however Dollard believed it needed a trigger. It is believed that the ego deals with this in two ways. Displacement: being aggressive towards other people and sublimation: channelling aggression into socially acceptable activities. A study found that frustration caused an increase of aggression.
