Sullivan (2007): parents can transmit educational/social advantage to their children through cultural rather than economic means

what study can be used for education
Parsons (1961): school as a secondary agent of socialisation provides equality of opportunity. Schools teach meritocracy in that it promotes hard work to achieve academically
Peer Group study
Lees : double standards control girls’ behaviour in peer groups e.g. how term ‘slag’ is used to control their behaviour
Religion study
Ninian Smart’s ‘ethnical or legal dimension’ of religion (religious rules) e.g. ten commandments in Christianity
Workplace study
Waddington (1999): studied onboarding w/i the police force and found that off-duty police officers have norms and values that don’t fit public expectation of them
–> Reiner found that these macho values and racist norms fuel tensions between civilian and police force
Media study
Currie (1999): female magazines have become more focused on beautification but men’s magazines cannot be overlooked e.g. GQ + Maxim shift values to place importance on appearance rather than sincerity
