Depth of Health & Human Services
US Government’s principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services.
CMS part 1
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
Combines oversight of Medicare (title XVIII) and federal Medicaid (title XIX) and State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the health insurance marketplace, and related quality assurance activities.
CMS part 2
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
Also responsible for developing rules and regulations that govern Medicare and Medicaid.

QIO
Quality Improvement Organization
Monitors and improves utilitization of care for Medicare beneficiaries. Has national network of QIO’s responsible for each state, territory and DC.

Office of Inspector General
Mission is to protect the integrity of the HHS programs and health and welfare of beneficiaries of the programs. Has major role in investigating fraud & abuse.

HIPPA
What is it?
Creates federal standards for insurers, homes, and employer plans, including those who are self insurers.
