What were the Crusades?
The Crusades were a series of wars fought by the European Christians and the Arab’s.
What was the Renaissance?
The Renaissance was a time period when learning and intellectual and artistic flourished in the 1300’s. People were interested in ancient roman and Greek ideas.
What is Circumnavigate?
Circumnavigation is the complete navigation around an entire island, continent, or astronomical body.
What is a Conquistador?
A Spanish conquer.
What was the Colombian Exchange?
Trade between the old world (European Countries) and the new world (The Americas)
What is the Encomienda System?
The Encomienda System was when native Americans had to do labor or pay taxes to the Spanish.
What is the Northwest Passage?
What the french wanted to get through North America to Asia.
What impact did the Crusades have on trade in Europe?
Rich European people wanted stuff from Asia and rich Arab merchants charged hefty prices. Italy also became more powerful. And European Countries wanted to find was directly to Asia via boat to get things cheaper.
How did each new technology make navigation easier? Astrolabe,Compass,Caravel
Astrolabe-Gave latitude based on Star Positions. Compass-Gave directions to make navigation easier. Caravel-Fast and big cargo ship and the triangle flags made steering easier.
Why were the European Countries searching for new trade routes to Asia?
Arab merchants charged a lot for their products and Europeans wanted the items cheaper.

Portugal and their trade route was under the southern tip of Africa and to India.
Who were the first Europeans to land in the western hemisphere and why do they not receive credit for their discovery?
The Vikings specifically Leif Erickson they did not receive credit because they did not change anything.
What impact did Columbus’ first journey have? Why is he credited with discovering the New World?
Columbus found the Americas he also made the Americas a good trading place and a place for trade with other European countries. He is credited with the discovery of the New world because he changed history.
What was the major impact of European colonization on Native population?
The Europeans carried diseases and they treated the natives horribly and the natives got new food,animals and learned metal working.
What area was colonized by Spain? What were they hoping to find?
Inca and Mayan empires and most of south and central America and parts of North America. They were hoping to find gold.
