A

Economic, they were trying to reach the east to get gold, spices, and silver. Social: for the thrill of adventure, curiosity, and glory, and to send information back to the others. Political: to claim new land, and gain resources/wealth. Religious: because of the threat of Muslim invasions, and to spread the gospel.
