Working Class:
Improved due to full employment, increased welfare, low inflation and from 1948 increasing economic growth
1959 incomes up 9%

Middle Class:
Free grammar ed
Standard of living hit by lack of consumer goods, furniture, petrol and cars
Incomes down 7% between 1938-50

Rationing:
1948 gov used some of Marshall aid to ensure rations maintained at established level
Without aid would have been cut 33%
Nov 1948: Wilson abolished rationing of toys, cutlery, pens
April 1949: bread sweets chocolate not rationed
