age differences Flashcards
disengagement
as people get older they become detached from society and their working life as they now are now retired. older people are now more privatised with their life’s and they may start to feel more isolated as their partners and friends will start beginning to die. meaning they turn to religion for social support
AO3- disengagement
belonging with believeing- may be turning to religion for the social element rather than the religious one
religious socialisation
as each society gets more secular, each new generation is less religious than the older one. this is reflected in more older people being part of the church events because they grew up at a time when it was more religious. and religion was more likely to be emphasised through their life and education. however during middle age they became distracted, but as they become old the seeds that were planted during their childhood socialisation means old people rediscover a religiousity that they may have ignored during their peak and middle ages
A03 religious socialisation
weak religion- bruce. can’t be classed as a strong religion if you drop it midway through life
ill health and death
older people are closer to death and tend to face more illnesses because of their age. they might turn to religion as a source of comfort and meaning during the hard times as they have disengaged with other parts of their life’s eg work. it’s natural that as we approach life we contemplate more about the afterlife, our purpose in life and begin to repent for sin, turning ,orr to religion as a means of coping
A03 ill health and death
weak religion people only turn to when they need it
