entire width of northern Africa largest desert in the world few people live here (traders and Nomads) Sand Dunes, Rolling Hills, Camel
Sahara Desert
south of the Sahara Desert dry/ semi-arid region very little rain people cut trees/ overgraze (turns to desert) As plants disappear, soil dries, and blows away (desertification)
Sahel
along the central coast hot/ humid climates dense forset many animals and birds clear-cutting, grazing animals, large population(deforestation)
Tropical Rainforest
middle of the continent, near the equator vast grassland/ more tropical farming good with rain (wet and dry season) lions, elephants, etc.
Savanna
southern Africa surrounded by semi-arid areas, becoming drier (desertification)
Kalahari Desert
longest river in the world flows south to north empties into the Mediterranean
Nile River
west central through rainforest begins at Lake Tanganyika; ends at the Atlantic Ocean
Congo River
3rd largest in Africa mouth, vast delta, “oil delta” - important to petroleum industry
Niger River
one of the largest/ deepest freshwater lakes
LAke Tanganyika
Victoria Falls One of the largest lakes in surface area Nile River begins here
