Afterlife and Souls Flashcards
What is one religion that believes in a soul?
Christianity, but, the concept of the soul differs in some of the major world religions.
How do Christians see the soul, and how is that different to Roman Catholics?
In Christianity, the belief in the soul is important as they believe that the soul leaves the body after death and goes on to either or Heaven or Hell.
Roman Catholics believe that if the soul is sinful or unclean it may go to Purgatory, (a waiting room) so that the soul can be purified before it goes to eternal life in Heaven.
How do Buddhists see the soul?
Buddhists do not believe in a soul. They believe that the actions that a person commits in their life, follow them, and determine how they will be reincarnated/reborn. This is called karma or karmic energy. The karmic energy of a person will determine what life they are reborn into.
How do Humanists (non-religious people) see the soul?
Humanists who do not believe in a God, do not believe in a soul. They believe that a human’s thoughts and actions are controlled by the brain and there is nothing spiritual or non-physical that controls a human. They believe that there is just one life and when a human dies, there is not a non-physical part of them that continues to live.
