competing with other nations to prove your nation greatness

belief that Euro’s and Amer.’s had a duty to civilize other parts of the world and make them like them
Genocide
mass murder of a particular group of people
Apartheid
1948-1994: whites and blacks separated w/whites taking power, mistreating blacks, and making laws that did so
Ethnocentrism
viewing one’s own cultures as superior to others, and applying your own culture values to judge people in other cultures.
Rite of Passage
a special ceremony or ritual that marks a particular stage of life, such as reaching adult hood
Developed Nation
high standards of living, and economics based on a combination of industry service, and agriculture
Developing Nation
low standards of living, little industry, and an economy that mostly relies on farming
