Who is Nelson Mandela?
A man who fought for equality of all races. He started the African National Congress and was imprisoned for 26 years.
What is the Sharpeville Massacre? Where did it take place? Why is it significant?
The Sharpeville Massacre took place on March 21, 1960. Police opened fire on blacks peacefully protesting the policies f the National Party government. 69 people killed. Event that forced Mandela and the African National Congress to start using violent means (not against citizens though).
Who are the Efe?
The Efe are a hunting-gathering society in Central Africa.
How do Efe’s live?
Efes live in small groups of 10-100 members.
How is the social structure unique and different for the Efes?
Respected Older male was group “leader” , but only his opinions mattered a little. Didn’t have major power. There was no major power source. Efe settled arguments through long discussions.
How did North Africa become Muslim?
After Muhammad’s death in 632 Muslims swept across North Africa and converted people by sword.
How is the South African Climate?
The climate is diverse. Mild Mediterranean coast to infertile deserts north west.
Much of the South African land is rich in….?
Minerals. Gold and diamonds.
Who were the first group to colonize South Africa and when?
Dutch were 1st group to colonize South Africa in 1652.
What did the Dutch do to society?
They showed up and racially segregated society.
