Why did Africa not unite?
-Because it was SO BIG
-Many languages hard to communicate on uniting
-Small Kingdoms but large continent which made small numbers of people
Why did most Africans refuse to work together and why did they finally do it?
-Because some were backstabbing others by trading Africans for slave trade
-And they finally worked together to go to war w/ Europeans to stop them from taking their resources
What was Zulu?
-Located in southern Africa and they were the most powerful at the time (but had wicker shields that didn’t protect from bullets)
Who was Shaka?
-Leader of Zulu
-Group was getting bigger and stronger
Where were the Dutch located?
-Their Cape Colony was In south Africa, and they eventually had to change from Dutch to British rule
Why did British go to war with the Dutch? Who won?
-Bc the british were sick of paying taxes as they crossed by the coast
-British Win
Who were the Boers?
-Dutch farmers moved north cuz they didnt like the british rule
What happend to the Boers when they moved more north?
-They ran into the Zulu and were killed
Who won and how from the Zulu and Boer battle?
-Zulu had big numbers but inferior weapons while the Boers had small numbers and less trained but superior weapons
-Boers win and get control of Zulu land
Who were scrambling for colonies in Africa and why?
-King Leopold sent a expedition to africa in hopes to find gold, diamonds, copper, rubber, and ivory. IT WORKED
-Many died from Molaria but then found a cure
-Cure=Quinine, which helped the expedition team get further into africa
What was the Berlin Conference? What ended up happening?
-A meeting to discuss what land each group got so their wouldn’t be conflict or bloodshed
-Ended up that Africa was then ¨Carved up¨ so everyone started fighting and killing eachother cuz there was less and less left
