Landlocked countries. Zimbabwe and Zambia and Botswana and Malawi and Uganda and many others.

Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Swaziland and Zimbabwe

Cairo. 7 million people live in the city and 10 million live just outside the city.

Lagos. It is a port city built on a group of islands.
Lagos is the fastest growing city in Africa and the second most populated. What problems has this large population caused in Lagos?
Shortage of electricity, drinking water, houses and transport. Huge traffic issues.
What is the capital city of Kenya? On which river is this city built?
Nairobi. Nairobi River.
Which city in Africa is the largest in the world not built next to water?
Johannesburg
What is a capital city?
It is the city chosen in each country where the government meets in its parliament building to decide on laws for the country and other government business.
Why is South Africa different to most other countries when looking at capital cities?
South Africa has three capital cities: Cape Town, Bloemfontein, and Pretoria.
Name the three capital cities in South Africa and what the government does in that city.
Cape Town - legislative capital. This means that the government meets in Parliament here to make the laws for the country.
Tshwane (Pretoria) - administrative capital. The government does its work here.
Bloemfontein - judicial capital. Some of the highest courts in the land are here.
