Mission of the AFP
To defend the Republic of the Philippines, safeguards its national security, and to assist government agencies in the socio-economic development of the country.
Function of the AFP
In consonance with National objectives, the AFP performs the following:
a. To uphold the sovereignty of the state, support the constitution and defend the territory of the Republic of the Philippines against all enemies’ foreign or domestics.
b. To advance the national aims, interest and policies.
c. To effectively plan for the organization, maintenance, development of its active and reserve forces for national security.
d. To perform such other duties as the president may direct.
He/she exercises strategic direction of the AFP through Secretary of National Defense (SND). He likewise exercises command of the AFP through Chief of Staff, AFP
Commander-In-Chief
Command-In-Chief is served by whom
President of the Philippines
Serves as Civilian Adviser of the President on matters concerning defense and security of the state.
Secretary of National Defense
To accomplish AFP’s mission, it is organized as follows:
- General Headquarters (GHQ)
- Major Service Commands (Phil. Army, Phil. Air Force, Phil. Navy)
- Area Commands
- AFP Wide Support and Separate Units (AFPWSSUs)
Highest military officer in the AFP and has command and control over all the elements of the AFP.
Chief of Staff, AFP (CSAFP)
Assist in professional technical and other functional areas
Secretary of Joint Staff
Assists the Chief of Staff and performs duties in the absence of the CSAFP
Vice-Chief of Staff
Is designated by the Chief of Staff Exercises general supervision over the general, special, administrative and technical staff services.
