A

Cuts from hip to hip and around belly button
Remove skin and fat from below belly button
Re-site the belly button in new position
Close the skin with absorbable stitches
Drains in
Catheter in

Consent for abdominoplasty (Postoperative Regime)

A

Stay in hospital for 3 days. Be guided by your symptoms
Day 0: Wake up in recovery. Same day review by surgeons. Move to the ward. Squeezy calf stockings & blood thinning injections.
Day 1: Mobilise with abdominal binder (tight corset to support abdominal wall). If mobilising we can remove catheter.
Day 2: If drains have minimal output after mobilising, they can come out.
Day 3: Home when pain under control, mobilising, feeling up to it

WOWED
o Wound check 5-7 days post op in PDC
o Outpatient appointment at 12 weeks
o Work: depends on work, but likely 2 weeks off
o Exercise: 6 weeks no heavy lifting/straining. Gentle walks encouraged.
o Driving: Driving: safely handle a vehicle, perform emergency stop, insurance provider aware, approx. 4 weeks.

Consent for abdominoplasty (Risk and Complications)

A

General complications/risks: PBI, SSS, WAG
Pain
Bleeding: Haematoma, Blood Transfusion
Infection
Seroma
Scarring: raised, red, or lump and can rarely extend beyond the scar.
Structural damage: Damage to Deeper Structures: nerves, blood vessels, muscles. Changes in skin sensation
Wound Healing Issues: Delayed/Dehiscence
Allergic Reactions
GA Complications (Deep vein thrombosis, cardiac and pulmonary complications)

Specific:
Abdominal striae above the umbilicus may become more pronounced
Loss or malposition of umbilicus
“Dog ears”
Revision surgery
