Hypoxia
- lack of oxygen in the body
1. Stagnant: poor circulation due to high G’s, cold temp
2. Histotoxic: inability to use oxygen. Caused by drugs or alcohol.
3. Hypemic: inability to carry oxygen caused by anemia or carbon monoxide poisoning.
4. Hypoxic: not enough oxygen (high altitude)
Illusions
Flicker vertigo: 3-20 flashes causes disorientation
Night myopia: eye relaxes focuses 2’-20’ ahead
False horizon: line of stars or city skyline
Autokinesis: light appears to move or disappear
Cloud penetration: sensation of pitching up
Featureless terrain: snow or water
Runway illusions
Narrow: appear high= low approach
Wide: appear low= high approach
Upslope: appear high= low approach
Downslope: appear low= high approach
Components of eye
Retina: back portion of eye, contains cones, rods and fovea
Cones: used at day for color and detail, located center of fovea about 10°
Rods: peripheral vision, detect movement. Night vision (Rhodopsin) 30min to adapt.
