Aerofoil Flashcards
Maximum Thickness
Thickest point of the aerofoil
Leading eadge
Foremost point of the aerofoil
Leading edge radius
Radius around the leading edge
Trailing edge
Aft most point of the aerofoil
Chord line
Imaginary line spanning from leading edge to trailing edge
Mean camber line
Imaginary line equidistant front the top surface to bottom surface
High speed wing profile
High thickness - chord ratio, slimmer profile
Low speed wing profile
Low thickness - chord ratio, fatter wing profile
Area of intense low pressure
The area above the wing, at the first half of the top surface
Stagnation point
Where the airflow is 0 coming to the front edge.
Fastest airflow
Top edge of the aerofoil
Slowest airflow
Bottom edge of the aerofoil
Angle of attack
Angle between the relative airflow and chord line
Cambered aerofoil
Increase AoA, and increases magnitude of total reaction. Moves the centre of pressure forwards
Symmetrical Aerofoil
Increases AoA and magnitude of total reaction, does not move centre of pressure forwards
