Aerodrome Lighting Flashcards
Obstacle lights on emergency or security vehicles
Flashing blue
Low intensity object lighting
Steady red
Medium intensity object lights
Flashing red or white
High intensity object lights
Flashing white. Required on structure taller than 150m AGL
The simple approach lighting system
Row of lights extending from the runway for not less than 420m from the threshold. A row of lights for a crossbar 18m or 30m in length 300m before the threshold
Simple approach lighting system my serve
Non instrument runway intended for use at night where the code is 3 or 4. A non precision approach runway. A precision CAT I runway
Barrette
Three or more ground lights closely spaced together to appear as a bar of lights
Precision approach CAT I lighting
- 900m from the threshold with a row of lights forming a 30m crossbar at 300m from the threshold
- gaps between crossbar should not exceed 6m
- lights forming the centre line must be located at 30m intervals
Precision CAT II and III lighting
Centre line of white lights extending 900m from the threshold, with two sides of red bars extending 270m with crossbars at 150m and 300m
Runway edge lights
Fixed white
Runway threshold lights
Unidirectional flashing white lights
Located symmetrically about the centre line
Runway touchdown zone lighting
Two white lights extending 900m in to the touchdown zone and less than 1800m when the lit area is reduced
Runway centre line lights
White from the threshold to 900m from the end of the runway where they alternate red and white to 300m where they are red until the end
Runway end lights
Fixed red unidirectional lights facing the aircraft
Taxiway lighting
Runway exit markings must be alternating yellow and green to the edge of the ILS sensitive area and green after that.
If the taxiway is used to enter the runway they should show green throughout.
