Aerobic Respiration Flashcards
Energy is required for??
(List 2)
- Growth and repair
- Movement
- Control of body temperature
- Sending electrical signals along nerves
what is the definition of respiration??
the chemical reactions in cells that break down nutrient molecules and release energy for metabolism
OR
dissolved gases into and out of the lungs.
What is respiration?
Chemical reaction that releases energy
Where does respiration happen?
Mitochondria
What is the purpose of respiration?
To release energy
What are the reactants needed for respiration?
Glucose and oxygen
What are the products of respiration?
Carbon dioxide, water and energy
What does respiration provide energy for?
Movement, growth and repair, controlling body temperature
What are two types of Respiration??
Aerobic respiration
Anaerobic respiration (without Oxygen)
what is aerobic respiration??
{YOU JUST EXPLAIN THE ANSWER}
{YOU JUST EXPLAIN THE ANSWER}
Aerobic respiration is chemical reactions in cells that use oxygen to break down nutrient molecules to release energy
Aerobic respiration happens all the time in the cells of animal and plants. Most of the reactions involved happen inside mitochondria, tiny objects inside the cytoplasm of the cells.
{Happens in mitochondria and is a chemical reaction that happens in cells}
Explain and describe the process of aerobic respiration??
Aerobic respiration is respiration WITH oxygen.
Aerobic respiration takes place in EVERY plant and animal cell, and some microbes e.g. bacteria.
In plant and animal cells respiration happens in the MITOCHONDRIA.
what does aerobic mean??
Aerobic means in the presence of oxygen
Equation for Aerobic respiration??
Glucose + oxygen => carbon dioxide + water + energy
How does our breathing rate change when we exercise?
Breathing rate will increase during and after exercise because our bodies need more oxygen for respiration.
what is an Independent variable??
(the one you change)
