AER4: Practical Application Flashcards
Which control uses longitudinal axis?
Aileron - roll
Which control uses lateral axis?
Elevator - Pitch
Which control uses normal/vertical axis?
Rudder - Yaw
What is stability?
Where such a body is so disturbed, stability is
concerned with the motion of the body after the external force
has been removed.
What is static stability?
the immediate
reaction of the body after disturbance
What is dynamic stability?
Dynamic
Stability describes the subsequent reaction after a disturbance
Positive, neutral, negative?
Positive stability
indicates a return towards the position prior to disturbance,
neutral stability the taking up of a new position of a constant
relationship to the original, whereas negative stability indicates
a continuous divergence from the original state.
What aircraft features help aircraft stability?
Control Surfaces - aileron, rudder, elevator
Wing design - dihedral vs anhedral
Wing position - high/low/swept
Centre of gravity position
