Book 1 of the Aeneid:
- 7 years after leaving Troy
- the Trojans are hit by a storm off the coast of Sicily - sent by Juno
- arrive at Carthage
- Venus complains to Jupiter about her son’s passing and he reassures her that Aeneas will reach Italy
- Venus sends Cupid to impersonate Ascanius - and make Dido fall in love w Aeneas
Book 2 of the Aeneid:
- Aeneas recounts the fall of Troy and Sinon’s trick.
- Hector appears to Aeneas in a dream and he escapes with Anchises and Ascanius
- Creusa is lost and her ghost tells Aeneas of his future with a new wife
Book 4 of the Aeneid:
- Dido gives in to her love for Aeneas and thinks they will build a city together
- Aeneas gets a message from Jupiter reminding him of his mission
- Aeneas leaves despite Dido’s begging
- Dido kills herself
Book 6 of the Aeneid:
- Aeneas visits the Sibyl at Cumae to get a prophecy from Apollo and visit his father
- Aeneas talks to several ghosts before meeting his father
- Anchises shows Aeneas the Roman heroes waiting to be born which inspires Aeneas
Book 7 of the Aeneid:
- The Trojans arrive at the mouth of the Tiber and receive a sign
- Latinus welcoimes them and is willing to marry his daughter to Aeneas
- Amata is inspired by Juno to contradict this
- Juno also causes Turnus to be consumed by anger
- war breaks out
Book 8 of the Aeneid:
- Aeneas goes to get help from Evander
- description of Pallanteum - future site of Rome
- Venus brings Aeneas new armour including the shield showing Octavian and the battle of Actium
Book 9 of the Aeneid:
- Turnus attacks the Trojan camp
- Nisus and Euryalus try to get a message to Aeneas but are killed
- Turnus breaks into Trojan camp but has to withdraw
Book 10 of the Aeneid:
- Council of the gods - Venus/ Juno argue and try to persuade Jupiter to help them
- Aeneas and Pallas return
- Turnus kills Pallas - takes sword-belt
- Aeneas revenge kills - Lausus and Mezentius
Book 11 of the Aeneid:
- both sides bury dead
- Pallas is returned to Evander
- Drances suggests Turnus fights Aeneas alone but the fight continues
- Camilla joins battle and is killed
Book 12 of the Aeneid:
- truce agreed
- Juturna helps break truce and more fighting
- Latium attacked, Amata kills herself
- Turnus prepares to meet Aeneas 1-1
- Juno makes a deal with Jupiter that she will stop interfering if the new race adopts Italian customs
- Aeneas wounds Turnus
- Turnus begs for mercy
- Aeneas is moved to anger seeing Pallas’ sword-belt and kills Turnus
