What is the class of Acetaminophen
Analgesic, antipyretic
What is the mechanism of action of Acetaminophen
Elevates pain threshold and readjusts the hypothalamic
temperature regulatory center.
What is the Onset and Duration of Acetaminophen
Onset: 15-30, Duration 4-6 hours
Acetaminophen Contraindications:
Allergy to NSAID, chronic liver disease, therapeutic dose of
acetaminophen in the last 6 hours or greater than 3 grams in last 24 hours
Acetaminophen Indications
Mild to moderate pain and treatment of fever
Acetaminophen Dose and Routes of administration.
325-650 mg PO every 4-6 hours or 1000mg IV for adults
Routes: Route: IV or PO check local protocol
Acetaminophen Side Effects
Wide therapeutic window (max therapeutic dose is more than half the toxic dose), liver injury, headache, nausea, vomiting
Albuterol Sulfate Class:
Beta 2 selective sympathomimetic bronchodilator
Albuterol Sulfate Mechanism of action:
Acts on Beta 2 sympathetic receptors in bronchiolar smooth
muscle to cause bronchodilation
Albuterol Sulfate Indications:
Bronchoconstriction caused by asthma, COPD, anaphylaxis and some other
conditions
Albuterol Sulfate Onset and Duration:
Onset: 5-15 minutes
Duration: Peak-30 minutes Total duration-3-4 hours
Albuterol Sulfate Contraindications:
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity. Symptomatic Tachycardia is a relative
contraindication
Albuterol Sulfate Precautions:
As with any sympathomimetic, the patient’s vital signs must be monitored. Caution should be used when administering albuterol to elderly patients and those with cardiovascular disease or hypertension. Lung sounds should be auscultated before and
after each treatment.
Albuterol Sulfate trade names:
Proair, Ventolin, Proventil
Albuterol sulfate Dose and Route of Administration:
Dose: 2.5mg. May repeat per protocol.
Route: Inhalation by small volume nebulizer at 6-8 lpm O2
Aspirin
Albuterol Sulfate Side Effects:
Anxiety, palpitations, and may increase heart rate
