AED Flashcards
Week 4
What does AED stand for?
Automated external defibrillation
What is the chain of survival?
Early recognition + call for help, early CPR, early defibrillation and post resuscitation care
What is ventricular fibrillation?
What affect to AEDs have on the heart?
AEDs stop fibrillation / stun the heart…
Name the shockable rhythms (where an AED can help)
- ventricular fibrillation
- pulseless ventricular tachycardia
Name the non-shockable rhythms (where an AED cannot help with out other intervention)
- asystole
- pulseless electrical activity
- agonal rhythm
What is biphasic defibrillation?
Literally ‘two phases’ - uses an electrical current that flows in two directions to shock the heart
How likely is defibrillation to be successful after 2 minutes of V-fib?
80% chance of success
How likely is defibrillation to be successful after 4 minutes of V-fib?
60% chance of success
How likely is defibrillation to be successful after 8 minutes of V-fib?
20% chance off success
How likely is defibrillation to be successful after 11 minutes of V-fib?
Virtually 0% chance of success
What can increase / improve the window of opportunity for successful defibrillation?
Good quality CPR
LOOK INTO PLACEMENT OF DE-FIB PADS
watch video on it
What does ROSC stand for
Restoration of spontaneous circulation
WRITE ROSC FLOW CHART
What does ROLE stand for
Recognition of life extinct
WRITE UP THE CONDITIONS + THEIR DEFENITIONS WHICH ARE UNEQUIVOCALLY ASSOCIATED WITH DEATH
- WHICH YOU WOULD NOT ATTEMPT RECUSCITATION ON
