A- airway - patent, upper airway noises?
B- breathing - SAT, RR, resp distress/WOB, ascultate - air entry and added sounds
* if concerns 15L non-rebreathe*
C - circulation - HR, BP, CRT, pulses, heart sounds, cyanosis,
signs of shock (hypovolaemic or septic) IV access, bloods including FBC, U&Es, crp, blood gases, blood cultures if temp raised. bolus 10ml/kg NaCl, ESCALATE consider abx
D- temperature (paracetamol/ibuprofen), AVPU, glucose, Pupils
E- expose patient, abdo exam, bleeding, rashes, bruises, ENT etc
repeat each stage as you go and see if still stable/worse/improve on treatment
Diagnosis
print resus council emergency algorithm
gain Hx once patient more stable
update the family
document in notes
debrief
Trust antimicrobial guidelines and check for allergies
SBAR handover
Situation - who and why
Background - admitted…, have had…, normal condition…
Assessment - problem is…, I have given…
Recommendation - please can you come…, what shall i do in meantime?
