Penicillin G
nausea, diarrhea, vomiting are most common. Anaphylaxis is not very common, but potential
Cefazolin
same as penicillin + nephrotoxicity, pseudomembranous colitis, superinfections are common
gentamicin
RASH, fatigue, LETHARGY are common. Neurotoxicity, neuromuscular blockage, and nephrotoxicity (more toxic than other classes)
erythromycin
nausea, ABDOMINA LCRAMPING, LOSS OF APETITE, vomiting, PHOTOSENSITIVTY and decreased hepatic metabolism (rarely drug of choice due to many drug interactions)
Tetracycline
superinfections are very common and sore tongue. Increased intracranial pressure
Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole
headache skin rash, fever, suppression of bone marrow cell division, stevens-johnson syndrome, hepatic necrosis
Levofloxacin
changes in taste, sleep disorders, dysrhythmias, change in glucose levels, tendon rupture
isoniazid
breast tenderness and enlargement, sore throat, difficulty concentrating, loss of appetite, increased BP, hepatoxicity, peripheral neuropathy
rifampin
urine retention, reddish-orange secretions, liver toxicity
ethambutol
increased uric acid (shouldn’t take with gout) optic neuritis
amphotericin B
shake and bake (take Benadryl and Tylenol before), decreased red blood cells, increased fluids
