Outline the advantages and disadvantages of transport by ship or by plane!

A

There are many advantages and disadvantages regarding the transport by ship or by plane, which I will outline in the following:
The transport by aircraft is faster in comparison to transport by ship, which has got great advantages in the transport of certain perishable goods, certain medicine and human transplantations organs.
Especially in crises, for example the “Ebola epidemic” in Africa, faster transport ensures proper medical treatment of people globally.
Moreover the cargo capacity has a great influence on which type of transport to use.
Ships have due to their size a greater cargo capacity than planes. This results in a lower price per ton ratio. In addition to that, ships are able to transport more different types of cargo than aircraft. This includes, for example, project cargo, gas cargo, oil cargo, and bulk cargoes.
Due to the ships` lower price per ton ratio, ships are more environmentally-friendly than planes, because they are able to transport more cargo on one voyage.
The fuel consumption of ships is lower in relation to planes. That is the reason why transport costs are cheaper for ships than for planes.
In sum there are many advantages and disadvantages for both transport types.
To ensure the supply of goods globally, we don’t only need ships but also planes.
