Why are steel and concrete used in composite construction?
A
They have almost the same thermal expansion
They have an ideal combination of strengths as concrete is efficient in compression and steel in tension
Steel gives corrosion protection and thermal insulation to the steel at elevated temps
Concrete can retain slender steel sections from local or lateral buckling

Define beating
A
Response of a structure is composed of two frequencies very close to each other. They are usually the natural frequency and the forcing frequency.
The two frequencies go from being in phase to 180 out of phase.
The beating response is half a sine shaped curve
Period= 1/(f1-f2)
