What does “se” mean when it is in front of one of the suffixes such as puluh, ratus, ribu, etc?
“Se” means “one”. While technically you could say “Satu Puluh” instead of “Sepuluh”, sepuluh means 10 the same way english ten means ten, where as satu puluh means one ten, which is grammatically incorrect.
When do number suffixes stop using the prefix “se”? And why?
Number suffixes stop using “se” as a prefix starting with Juta and beyond. The number suffixes beyond ribu are loan words, and therefore use a different structure. Sejuta does exist, but it means, “a million” contextually. In formal counting, use satu juta.
