Advanced Computer Science Concepts Flashcards
Intelligence exhibited by machines or software.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
A micro-processor architecture wherein the machine instruction set is designated as complex. The antonym to complex is reduced.
Complex Instruction Set Computing (CISC)
The part of the computer architecture related to programming, including the native data types, instructions, registers, addressing modes, memory architecture, interrupt and exception handling, and external input/output (I/O).
Instruction Set Architecture (ISA)
A micro-processor architecture that has few instructions.
Reduced Instruction Set Computing (RISC)
Software that manages computer hardware and software resources and provides common services for computer programs, like DOS, Windows, UNIX, Linux, and MAC OS.
Operation System
The first widely-installed operation system for personal computer. It is an acronym for several computer operating systems that are operated by using the command line. This OS dominated the IBM PC compatible market between 1982 and 1995 until Windows came along and emerged as the dominant OS.
DOS (Disk Operation System)
The first version was released on November 20th, 1985. It was version 1.0 and was from Microsoft.
Windows OS
A family of multitasking, multiuser computer operation systems that derive from the original AT&T _____, developed in the 1970s at the Bell Labs research center by Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie, and others.
UNIX
A UNIX-like computer operation system assembled under the model of free and open-source software development and distribution. First released on October 5th 1991 by Linus Torvalds, its defining component is the ______ kernel, an operating system kernel. Many version have evolved over the years including Ubuntu, Gentoo, PacMan, and Red Hat.
Linux
A series of graphical user interface-based operation systems developed by Apple Inc for their Macintosh line of computer systems.
Mac OS
