Hand Hygiene: Perform hand hygiene before coming into contact with the woman

Communicate: Introduce yourself and what you will be doing

Heart Rate / Resp Rate: Perform these two together. Palpate the pulse at the wrist, when you have found it count the pulse for 1 minute to establish HR. While doing this, watch the chest and count / listen to the breaths for 1 minute to establish RR

Blood Pressure: Place cuff on arm with arterial line facing to the corresponding artery. Palpate radial pulse, pressurise cuff and watch what mmHg you can no longer feel pulse. Place stethoscope at the crease of the elbow and inflate cuff to 30mmHg above where you could no longer feel pulse. Listen and record BP

Temperature: Place thermometer under the tongue to establish temp. Should be between 36 and 37.5 degrees

Oxygen Saturation: Place clamp on index finger to establish saturation

Document: Document all findings on card, and verbalise for examiners

Ask: Ask if there is anything else the woman needs from you at this time
