Timing of complaint
Acute is within seven days
Non-acute is 7 days to 6 months
Historic is 6 months or over
Purpose of prelim interview
To establish
1 what further investigation actions are required
2 whether offence may have occurred
3 if victim wishes to make a formal complaint
After prelim interview
Reasses Public safety Evidence Scene Witnesses Suspects
Clarify victims expectations on making formal complaint or just wanting information
Information for victim
Information about investigation process and likely timings such as : Initial action Interview Medical Exhibits Court processes
What to do prior to the Medical examination
Advise medical practiser of age, gender, timings any any info about the incident such as drugs or alcohol
Arrange the time Specialist support Evidence kits like toxicology Change of clothing if support has not done so MEK if needed Information
Police collect all clothing worn by victim
Before sealing the MEK
Ask about victims immediate needs
Verbalise exhibits and possible signifance
ID forensic items to go to ESR
ID injuries to be photographed
ID any disclosures made to the medical guy

Doctor

Third to police file
Where do you put the MEK
Kit goes in the fridge until delivery to ESR
