ADSB Flashcards
What is ADSB
ADS-B stands for Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast.
It is a system in which aircraft broadcast their position, velocity, identity and other information at a high rate. It is broadcast so that anyone can receive and display the information.
The signal (data) can be fed to the ATC facility and used to provide air traffic services.
What is ADSB out?
Transmission of ADSB information out from an aircraft onto other aircraft or ground. ADSB OUT has been made mandatory for IFR aircraft.
What are the onboard equipment?
ADSB functions are a part of the aircraft’s Mode S transponder.
Transmissions are automatically activated when the transponder is activated.
Selection of STBY mode inhibits ADSB transmission as well as SSR interrogation replies
What’s transmitted on ADSB
-Flight identification
-ICAO 24-Bit Aircraft address
-Position
-Position integrity
-Barometric altitude
-Vertical rate
-Track angle and ground speed
-Emergency indication
-Special position identification
Flight plan filling
LB1
L- means Mode S, extended quitter
B1- means 1090 MHz out capacity
If a specific type of emergency is not conveyed to controllers in an ADSB environment and the flight crew does not verbally communicate the nature of emergency, the controller will initiate procedures for suspected…..
Unlawful interference
When all GPS functions are out of service, is the aircraft capable of ADS-B functions?
No
According to MEL, if both GPS fail, then ADSB OPERATION is not authorized.
When ATC advices “ADSB OUT OF SERVICE” what do they mean?
ADSB ground equipment unserviceable
Which phraseology is proper within ADSB airspace
Identification terminated
For ATC to apply 5NM separation to an ADSB position, the integrity value must effectively guarantee the aircraft is within …… NM of where it reports it is.

In Australia, ADSB ground stations will be located across the continent to compliment existing radar coverage resulting in nationwide ATC surveillance capability above …..
