- superficial region consists of this glandular tissue
- steroid hormones (as a response to ACTH)
- outermost zone- mineralocorticoids (aldosterone- regulate fluid and electrolyte homeostasis)
- middle zone- glucocorticoids (cortisol- regulate the stress response,blood glucose, fluid homeostasis and inflammation)
- inner zone- gonadocorticoids
