What is Conn’s syndrome? What is it also known as?

Excess mineralocorticoid
Also known as primary hyperaldosteronism

What effect does Conn’s have on the body?
A
Increased sodium and water retention, increased potassium elimination (–> weakness, polyuria), low renin

What is the main clinical presentation of Conn’s?
A
Hypertension (due to increased sodium and water retention)

What is the treatment for Conn’s?
A
Surgery to remove tumour or spironolactone (aldosterone receptor antagonist)
