Income support
Aged 16-59 years, on low income, working less than 16 hours per week and not receiving Job Seekers Allowance
Job Seekers Allowance
From 18 years old to state pension age. Claimants must be capable of working and agree to actively seek work
PIP Personal Independent Payment
This replaced the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for adults in 2013. It is a tax-free benefit for adults aged 16-64 years who need help with personal care or have walking difficulties because they are physically or mentally disabled. For children there is still the ‘DLA for children’
Statutory Sick Pay
For employees unable to work due to illness. Unable to work for > 4 days in a row. Paid up to a maximum of 28 weeks
Incapacity Benefit & Employment and Support Allowance
Employment and Support Allowance replaced Incapacity Benefit for new claimants from October 2008. Claimable by those not entitled to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), for example self-employed, or when SSP has ended
Retirement pension
State pension may be claimed from 66 years and will now increase to 67 between 2026 and 2028. State pensions are taxable and paid even if the claimant is still working

Androgenic and anabolic steroids, hCG, somatropin
Schedule 5
exempt from the vast majority of Controlled Drug requirements other than retention of invoices (e.g. codeine, pholcodine, Oramorph 10mg/5ml)
How long are prescriptions for drugs under schedules 2,3 & 4 valid for?
controlled drugs in Schedules 2,3 & 4 is valid for 28 days
