Adhesive Capsulitis Flashcards
What is a condition characterized by stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint? Occurs when the capsule surrounding the shoulder becomes tightened and inflexible leading to reduced range of motion.
Adhesive Capsulitis
What movements are restricted?
Abduction and External Rotation
What are the 4 stages of Frozen Shoulder?
- Stage 1
- Freezing
- Frozen
- Thawing
Which stage of frozen shoulder?
- Gradual onset of pain that increases with movement and is present at night
- Loss of external rotation
- Less than 3 months
Stage 1
Which stage of frozen shoulder?
- Persistent and more intense pain even at rest
- Limited in all directions
- 3-9 months
Stage 2 : Freezing
Which stage of frozen shoulder?
- Characterized by pain only with movement, significant adhesions and limited GH motions
- Significant restriction, excessive scapulothoracic movement
- 9-15 months
Stage 3 : Freezing
Which stage of frozen shoulder?
- Minimal pain and no synovitis but significant capsular restrictions
- Motion may gradually improve
- 15-24 months
- Some patients may never regain normal ROM
Stage 4 : Thawing
What is the most common age group to develop frozen shoulder?
