Adherence Scale Flashcards
3-5 rules are visible in classroom
Adherence rating: If 3 to 5 rules are visible in the classroom, rate this a “7.” If less than 3 rules are visible, rate this a “1.”
Rules
Adherence rating: Remember that a high Adherence rating can be given for a powerfully focused use of reviewing rules and/or addressing rule violations during a brief segment of the observation, for frequently and consistently referring to the rules throughout the observation, or both.
Precorrection
The Adherence rating of precorrection is based upon the frequency of use of precorrection during the observation. In terms of the Adherence rating, if the teacher uses several precorrection statements during an observation (more than 2) then a high Adherence rating is typically achieved (“6” or “7”).
Corrective Feedback
In rating the Adherence of corrective feedback you should pay particular attention to the rate of corrective feedback within the opportunities to provide corrective feedback, as well as the thoroughness of the corrective feedback
OTRs
Adherence - As a general rule, if the teacher provides the focal child with 1-5 OTR rate a “2”; 10 would be rated a “3”; 15 a “4”; 20 a “5”; 25 a “6”; and 30+ a “7.”
Behavior Specific Praise
During an observation session (e.g., 15 min) if the teacher provides multiple behavior specific praise statements to the focal child (5>) then a high Adherence rating (i.e., “7”) would generally be attained. If the frequency of behavior specific praise statements is 4 then a rating of “5” or “6” would be attained, while 3 behavior specific praise statements would be rated a “4” and 1 or 2 would be rated a “2” or “3”.
Instructive Feedback
If the majority of child correct responses are followed by instructive feedback then a high Adherence rating (“7”) would be attained. If 30-50% of child correct responses are followed by instructive feedback a rating of “4” would be attained, while less than 30% would result in a rating of “1” or “2.”
Child Responsiveness
The Adherence rating of child responsiveness is associated with an overall rating of the FC responsiveness to the teacher’s attempts to implement the BEST in CLASS components during the entire observation.
For example, to receive a
“7” the FC would demonstrate characteristics of responsiveness to the teacher’s use of BEST in CLASS strategies every time (or almost every time) a strategy is used.
“5” or “6” – 60-90% of time
“3” or “4” – about half of the time
“1” – never
Child Engagement
The Adherence rating of child engagement is associated with an overall rating of the FC engagement during the entire observation.
For example,
“7” - the FC would demonstrate characteristics of engagement for the entire observation (or almost the entire observation; 95% of the time, for example).
“5” or “6” – 75-90% of time
“3” or “4” – 50-75% of time
“1” – never engaged
