Adenosine Flashcards
1
Q
Adenosine: Class
A
Antidysrhythmic
2
Q
Adenosine: Mechanism of action
A
Slows conduction through the AV node, interrupts re-entry pathways, slows sinus rate
3
Q
Adenosine: Indications
A
- SVT(not A-flutter or A-fib)
- Wide complex tachycardia of unknown origin unresponsive to amiodarone or lidocaine
4
Q
Adenosine: Contraindications
A
- Sick sinus syndrome
- 2nd and 3rd degree AV blocks
- Afib and A-flutter
5
Q
Adenosine: Side effects
A
CV: Transient asystole, bradycardia, PVCs, palpitations, chest pain, hypotension
Resp: Dyspnea, hyperventilation, tightness in throat, bronchospasm
CNS: Dizziness, lightheaded, headache, blurred vision
GI: Nausea
6
Q
Adenosine: Dose
A
6 mg RAPID IV push followed by 20 mL flush, AC vein preferred. Continuous ECG monitoring required
7
Q
Adenosine: Special considerations
A
- Short half life(10 sec)
- Administered rapidly followed by immediate flush
- Reoccurrence of tachydysrhythmia
