Adductor Muscles Flashcards
Name the muscles of the adductor group.
Adductor Magnus, Adductor brevis, Adductor longus, gracilis and pectineus
What are the positions and arrangement of these muscles in the thigh?
Adductor muscles
On the medial side of the thigh in layers.
Adductor magnus - Most posterior of the adductor group between adductor brevis and semimembranosus
Adductor longus - medial aspect of thigh and superficial.
Adductor brevis - medial aspect of thigh too deep to palpate
Gracilis - the most superficial and medial aspect of the thigh
Pectineus - supra-medial aspect of thigh.
What are the attachments of Adductor Magnus?
proximal attachment -inferior-pubic ramus, ischial ramus and ischial tuberosity
distal attachment - linea aspera of the femur, medial supracondylar ridge and adductor tubercle
What are the actions of Adductor Magnus?
Working as a whole it is an Adductor of the hip, Posterior/Ischial aspect extends the hip
What is the nerve supply of Adductor Magnus?
Adductor part - Obturator nerve L2,3
Extensor part - Sciatic Nerve (Tibial section) L4
