Q

How do we work out ⅔ + ⅕?

A

Find the lowest common denominator (IE 3 x 5 = 15)
2/3 is equivalent to 10/15 (2x5 = 10 & 3x5 = 15)
1/5 is equivalent to 3/15 (1x3 = 3 & 5x3 = 15)

10/15 + 3/15 = 13/15

Q

Which of these is LARGER?
A) ⅘ or
B) ⅚

A
5/6 because...
Find the common denominator
5 x 6 = 30
4/5 is the same as 24/30 (4x6 and 5x6)
5/6 is the same as 25/30 (5x4 and 6x4)
25/30 is larger than 24/30
